I would like to know if it is possible to set up a wireless network between two laptops WITHOUT a wireless router, if both have wireless network cards (duh)? If yes, how can it be done?

The previous answer is incorrect. If you have two laptops and they each have a wireless card, you can absolutely have them talk to each other wirelessly without using a wireless router, by setting them up in "ad hoc" mode, and not "infrastructure" mode. In Ad Hoc mode, WLAN clients connect directly to each other without the use of an access point or wireless router. This Ad Hoc mode is used for small workgroups, say 2, 3 or 4 stations, when there is no wireless router available. Sometimes instead of "ad hoc" it's called "peer to peer" and sometimes "IBSS" mode, which stands for Independent Basic Service Set.

So, depending on what cards you have (Linksys, Netgear, Dlink, etc) you should check the manual, or go to their web site, and do a search on "ad hoc" and you will find the procedure specific to your wireless cards. It's simple to do.

with to wireless cards (reciever cards you might call them) you can not if they both have blue tooth or IR then you can. There are help files that you can find on google to do this. Since it is a deficualt process you will need more then just quick answers from here. You can get a cross over cable and do what you want too if that helps any. A cross over calbe will do what you want but once again it is not wireless.
