New Yorkers are very unfriendly. Every New Yorker also always act like they have to be tough all the time, they don't laugh, they don't show brotherly love, they don't look into each other's eyes when speaking. In the South it's different they show love no matter where you from and we're friendly around here. Every hood is the same but every hood really ain't the same! If you really tough you wouldn't have to act tough if you know you're tough though, that's the real person's mentality. Anyway why are New Yorkers so "Gotta be a tough guy conscious"?

It's a survival mechanism. NY is a huge city, with lots of people crowded into a relatively small area. If you act like a woos someone might pick on you.
I used to work for people from NYC. I was never able to joke around with them, get them to loosen up. It's like they are always combat ready.

It isn't an act, for one thing. You try living there and you'll answer your own question. They say IF YOU CAN MAKE IT THERE, YOU'LL MAKE IT ANYWHERE. That saying exists for a reason. Why do ya think there's a place in NY called Hell's Kitchen? And NOT all New Yorkers are like this. You just haven't met them. I live in upstate New York and I've been to NYC many times.

They are scared. When you live in a place which is known as the heart of Capitalism and you live in a country that goes around bombing little bitty countries, you start looking over your shoulder and wondering what's around the next corner. And scared people act tough so nobody gets too close.
