first, uh, never mind the avatar. i'm a late-20's male who's about to move to a new college (U of GA) to start Ph.D. study. i've been advised (and yeah i know it's true) that i need a makeover -- different clothes and better grooming.

so help me out! i want to look better both for myself and (hopefully) to be more attractive to females.

vital stats: i'm 6 feet tall, slightly overweight (which will go away soon with those hilly walks around the UGA campus), light brown hair, hazel eyes, large build (not-quite football-player-like, but close), wear glasses, and (important!) will have not much disposable income.

i've been wearing mostly sweat-shorts, bland polo shirts, and tennis shoes while getting my M.S. degree. blah. help me out please... guys' or girls' advice both very welcome! the more specific, the better!

There is so much you can do but make sure your doing it for yourself. You can go to target and get some clothes that are pretty fashionable for a tight budget. Get some khaki drawstring shorts and a couple t-shirts. You said you wear polos and those are fine, too. Ditch the tennys, get some universal flip flops or something. Get some gel and spike up your hair! That should do it.

Alright, first off, sweat-shorts need to go. Polo shirt are ok as long as they are worn with nice pants! www.ae.com check out the clearence section, they usually have really good sales. I would check out their pants and shorts. Go for some khaki cargo shorts; those are in style and also nice looking.

Next, try for just some regular graphic t-shirts. www.oldnavy.com may have some cheap ones for ya. (ae.com also) Tennis shoes are alright but maybe grab a pair of nice leather flip flops for the summer time! I hope this helps just a bit! Best of Luck.

I just updated my style this year, and it feels great! Some advice that helped me out: Choose a neutral color as the base for your new wardrobe, and a couple of accent colors. Stick to these colors until your wardrobe starts working for you, then you can branch out into other colors. DO NOT buy flare leg (too young) or tapered leg (just yucky!) pants. Find pants with a straight leg or boot cut that look good on you.

Hit some clearance sales at the mall. At our age (I'm 29), we shouldn't try to be up-to-the-minute trendy, so clearance works great for us. Have fun!

By the way, congrats on your M.S. degree. Brains are way sexier than clothes

Nominate yourself (or get someone to nominate you) to go on TLC's What Not to Wear. Stacey and Clinton will fix you right up.
