You have to leave the x alone.
The first thing you do is pass the -4 to the other side. When you pass something to the other side of the = , it changes sign. it if is + is passes -, if it is multiplying it passes dividing.
2x - 4 = -3
2x = -3 + 4 Leave then sign of the greater number
2x = 1
x = 1/2 Pass the 2 dividing

2x - 4 = -3
add both sides by 4
2x - 4 + 4 = -3 + 4
2x = 1
devide both sides by 2
2x/2 = 1/2
x = 1/2
therefor x = 0.5 or 1/2

X=0.5 or 1/2
I recommend talking with your teacher or getting a tutor if you cannot understand this
2x -4 = -3
First add 4 to both sides, you want to isolate x. This eleminates the -4 and allows you to see x. So -3 + 4 +1
2x =1, you can do the rest
