The best thing I've ever used to remove ink, and that includes sharpie off of my wooden dining room table, and ink from an ink pen on my fabric truck seat apholstry is Rubbing Alcohol. Same idea as the hair spray suggestions, but the difference with Alcohol is that you can soak the stain in it much better than the hairspray, and in the hairspray, the alcohol is diluted with other ingredients, AND it's sticky. I've even used ink to remove old ink stains, depending on what's been done to them since they were made. This should work great. Good luck.

Look in the Yellow Pages under Fire Restoration. Or look in the white pages for Servicemaster. It sounds to me like this is something you should not try yourself. I think you should have a professional look at it.
Do you have homeowners' insurance? Depending on how the mark got there, you may have coverage, if the sofa cannot be cleaned and has to be reupholstered.
