Blood in the spittle is usually a sign of severe bronchitis or pnemonia. You are probably at the very beginnings of the infection. It means what ever infection you have contracted is causing the brochial lining to bleed. You need to take yourself to a doctor. He will likely precribe antibiotics and give you nebulizer treatments to loosen up the phlegm in your chest.
Blood in the spit could be from something at simple as gingivitis if there is no congestion in your chest and the spit didn't come from your chest. It really all depends on where the spit originated as to how serious your situation is.

You should so go to the doctor.
Granted it could be something very minor, but blood appearing without a clear cause is typically something that should be addressed because it may be signs of something internal that has been damaged.
Again, you shouldn't be worried because it could be something minor like internal scraping from having a really bad cold with a lot of coughing or the like.
But best to find out and get it resolved first.
Good luck and I hope that everything turns out ok.
Love as always,
Sebastian

Have you seen a doctor yet? Do you have a dental problem? it is better to know that you are in good health than to be in poor health and speculate. Alleve your fears and suspicions by getting a physical or just visiting your physician.Being safe is better than being sorry. In addition, fruits especially those rich in vitamin C are an asset to good health, especially after a cold.Fruits and veggies are to good health what a credit card or cash is to a wallet or purse.

If it is bright red then you need to talk to your Doctor. And if it is every time you spit you should call you Doctor and ask them about it. Because it could just be your sinuses.

well, see a doctor if this persists for more than a week, it could be blood from your lung, or an open sore in the throat, either way, not good.
