It is not like a flood of fluid comes gushing out of your body cause your water breaks. Your child's head creates like a stopper for the fluid. It will not come flooding out till after you give birth to your child. If there is some leakage...it is so minimal that just washing your sheets will wash it away.

Your doctor will probably break the water. The pain is getting to 4 cm and having contractions at a constant 3 - 5 mins just to be admitted into the hospital...anything before that...you are just wasting the doctors time.

Good luck and have fun. The wake up calls by the baby is crazy. Odd hours of the night....OMG...enjoy sleep while you can.

Amniotic fluid is clear or yellow maybe with a slight amount of "show". BUT IT IS NOT POISON. What is the big deal with the sheets, put some old ones on if you are worried about destroying them. Having your water break in your mother in laws living room sofa should be more of a worry. Oh, just kidding, relax. Sounds like you are overly concerned about body fluids. Hope you have a healthy image of you as a woman, you know, not ashamed, don't feel dirty. Mattresses can be cleaned, chairs can be cleaned. I would hate to show you all the dead skin on your mattress and sheets, would really freak you out. You
are having a beautiful baby, which by the way, grows into a child. Get use to "Early American Child" decor for a few years. By the way, blood can be gotten out of almost anything with peroxide. Pour peroxide on the area and allow it to foam, do not scrup, let the peroxide do the work. This will come in handy during the third stage of labor when you are bound to draw blood from beating your husband and yelling "Don't you ever touch me again." That, too, is temporary. As soon as baby comes you'll be kissing. Congrats.

You can get a plastic mattress cover and buy a cheap set of sheets .. when the water breaks, toss the sheets and plastic cover. Your baby will be spitting up, urinating, and spilling other fluids over your sheets afterwards, so the 500 count egyptian cotton sheets might need to go into storage for 3 years. Kids ruin everything (material things, that is.)

This is a first, I am in a group for mommies and I have never heard such a concern, Who cares about the sheets???? From 32 mommies there are in the group nobody has "exploded" their water in the sheets, I personally felt it when it just started so did the other ones, is like an instinct, you will feel it too, but if you are concerned, the logical solution is a plastic cover.

Well when I had my daughter, my water broke in bed. But on average a woman only loses about a tablespoon of fluid when her water breaks. I know it is going to feel like a lot more, but trust me it isn't. And besides it is clear anyway, but if you want to be on the say side, buy a waterproof pad and put it on underneath your sheets just in case. You can get those in the baby aisle of most stores (like walmart etc.) Or ask your doctor if you can have on of the pad that they use in the hospital. They are a blue plastic pad with what looks like a cotton cloth on one side. Most doctors offices have them just laying around for patients. You might have seen them if you have gotten a pap smear. They are the things that you are usually laying on just in case you leak or make a mess. The nurse should be able to give one to you. I hope this helped, good luck on the new baby and congrads in advance. :))

YES.

If the baby has taken its first bowel movement in utero it most definately will stain and stink your sheets!

To prevent line your mattress with a vinyl table cloth. Put the vinyl side down so the cloth part faces up. You probably already have one..or your mom does.

If you notice the color in the waters go to the hospital immediately! If your baby inhales the meconium (first bowel movement) it can cause serious complications like pneumonia.

Yes it can ruin the sheets, but more importantly it can ruin your bed. Get a waterproof mattress pad and put that on now so you don't stress about it. More stress in your life is the last thing you need, plus it's not good for the baby. It happens to so many people, don't worry. I felt mine coming and made it to the bathroom in time.

:) Well, for the particularly O-C parent, this might be a valid concern...so for those of you who had attitude in response....simply do not reply to such questions that you find dubious or stupid. It is an honest question, and something that for later in my pregnancy (I'm 21 weeks 5 days today) I might consider in preparation for labor. Mattresses ARE expensive...and if a particular woman may release more fluid than normal before delivery after the sac of waters has broken, it should be thought about! Thank you to those who have made the suggestion of a shower curtain....I want something to use but that makes minimal noise if you move around in your sleep...I have enough problems sleeping already!

Wow, your worried about your water staining your sheets and your having a baby? You have a lot to learn. Your entire life is going to change and stains are going to happen and happen all the time now. You have bigger things to worry about then stains. Dont worry, when you have kids nobody will judge you on your stains, unless they are morons.

Seriously. Have you ever stained your bedsheets with water in the past? Then it isn't likely now.

If there does happen to be some blood in the water (there shouldn't be), then have someone immediately remove the sheet from the bed and soak it in salt water. The salt will remove the blood.
