I am re-building the carbs on my 1983 Yamaha XS650 Heritage Special motorcycle. Most tech forums on this bike say that the bike is very lean running as set from the factory with these jets. Original main jets are 132.5, can I bump this up to say 135 or more to richen the main mixture? Its an air cooled bike and I know that lean running causes hotter temps...or is this just gonna make a mess of everything else and am I gonna have to change secondary jets and air jets too etc etc. Intake and exhaust components will remain stock. Thanks for info and help!

Bump the pilot jets up one size, then go one size on the mains. If it feels like it wants more go up another on the mains and try that. Make sure to drill out the mixture screw caps so you can adjust the idle mix. I might consider adding a half clip position shim under the needles also. The pilot jets control 1/8-1/4 throttle and influence the entire fuel curve, the needle controls 1/4-3/4 throttle and the mains control 3/4 to full so you will find the biggest improvement with the pilots and shims since you ride at least 80% of the time on the needle.
