because I've been hearing rumors about it and on trl, I think I saw the hosts give green day a plaque for retiring did they really retire?

No. They are working on a new album soon.
The band has emerged from their half year rest and said that they are working through demos and new songs.
In an interview with MTV News on June 2 Green Day said that their next album will be "an event" when it is released. Billie Joe Armstrong stated, "At this point, to put a record out with like 12 songs on it and turn it in sounds a bit boring for us. So we want to definitely make something that is well thought-out and [that] all of our blood is put into."

NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NOOOOOOOOOO... everyone says that after every album of theirs. at one point after warning (i believe not positive when), billie did ask mike if it was worth going on.
BUT. with the success of American Idiot green day has gone back to the studio with lots of energy to record and come up with new stuff. keep an eye on www.greenday.com it's their official site and if(or when) the band ever retires it will be posted there

no...they are NOT retiring...first off,the guys of Green Day,Billie Joe,Mikeand Tre are waaay 2 young and cool 2 retire.
second,they released 9 albums...they cant quit now!they ROCK!
third,theyre all just silly willy rumors.ignore them.
