I have a 7 month old who seems to only breastfeed in multiple small doses during the day. I want to know how to get him to eat more at each feeding, so I can reduce the total number of daily feedings.

Babies that age are distracted easily. Try eliminating some distractions and maybe he will settle down for longer sessions. My DD is ten months old and still nurses every 1-3 hours around the clock..or more! My suggestion is to just enjoy your special time with him, before you know it he will be weaned and you will miss nursing him.

He's old enough now that you can start weaning him off the breast. Offer him jarred fruits, vegetables & baby cereal by Gerber. Use a soft tipped spoon & just a tiny bit on the end so he can taste it. If he likes it, offer more. If not, replace the lid & refridgerate to offer at a later time. Use your breastmilk to mix his cereal with. DO NOT use sugar. Use jarred baby fruit instead for a natural sweetener. DO NOT use a bottle to give cereal in. That's a recipe for choking & over feeding. Offer him the cereal in the morning when he wakes up & at night if he's extra hungry.

you cant a baby will only eat how much he wants. without starving the child you could try to see if he will go like an extra half hour by distracting and playing. talkking etc. but you cant make them eat more at a time. it doesnt work. but if they get hungrier maybe they will eat more and go longer. just if nothing calms him you gotta feed him. try pumping, maybe then you can rest between feedings and someone else can feel. just some ideas. good luck!

It depends on why he is nursing that way. You can either get him a larger stomach, or you can trade in your breasts for some with larger storage capacity. These are *usually* the reasons for frequent, small feedings.

If neither of these will work for you, you can just continue the way things are going now. If he's doing well, why risk changing it?

Well you can start setting times to breastfeed and try to wein him/her to your set times, and start incorporating the rice cereal, and baby jar foods in between those varied times, so that way when it is time for him/her to feed they will be more apt to have more.

3 things come to mind: you may be eating something (garlic, nuts, etc) that's showing up in your milk that your baby doesn't like; you may be tense/worried and that's being communicated to your baby, or your baby may just like to sip, not gulp!

He'll eat when he's hungry and there's not a whole lot you can or should do about it.
