Recently Ive been waking up noticing that my hands are curled inwards. It is obvious that I have slept like this for a few hours as it is quite painful. Does anyone know what causes this and how I can prevent it?

Your hands curling in are natural, as your body changes position during the night, tending toward the fetal position.

The pain, and possibly numbness and tingling, may be due to nerve impingement, due to the prolonged positioning. This is also called carpal tunnel syndrome.

The easy way to stop the pain is to tape or brace your wrists for a few nights, to see if keeping them uncurled takes the pain away.

For info on carpal tunnel, search the questions for carpal tunnel syndrome, or write in a question on that.

Hands Curl Up While Sleeping

I just realized that we all do that in our sleep. My doctor told me this when I went in and found out that I have occult ganglion cysts in my wrists.

Anyway, I sleep with wrist splints on every night. I wake up with my hands in pain, but if I don't sleep with them, I have to deal with the pain all day instead of just in the first 5 minutes of waking up.

Sleeping with wrists curled is normal though, but try the splints - they may work for you.

"limp wrist syndrome" ?

I don't know. I have noticed the same thing from time to time.

I wondered if I was not just hiding my fingers from my kitty who likes to "force" my sleeping fingers to 'pet' him. I put him outside the bedroom and the sore wrists went away! At least for now.

If you are a real man, that is not the only thing that bends doing your sleep.

the position in which you sleep is caused by your lifestyles and it could be palsy or a vitamin and/or mineral deficiency

Don't know why...... But try putting a short ace bandage, not tight,
on them.
