This is incredible to think that in 2006 some people think that half of the moon is always lit.... You simply just failed in Astronomy....
And for those who think that I am far gone.... Please make your own observations.... You will understand that the present moonlight theory is totally FALSE... It seems good when in nightime e in DAYTIME the WHOLE present scientific theory cannot be right......... SORRY for the unknowledgeable people. I STILL DARE THE REAL SCIENTISTS HERE TO ANSWER THIS....

The moon has a side that always faces us! That's not always filled with light though. That's why we have phases of the moon.

The Earth and Moon are locked, when you look at the moon you see the opposite phase to that which you would see if you were on the Moon looking at the Earth. So when its a new moon you would see a full Earth from the moon. This explaines why you can see the darker side of the Moon slightly lit up just after it's new as the dark side is being lit up by a nearly full Earth which is far brighter than the effect you get on Earth with a full Moon.

The theory of an eternal "dark section" of the moon is something of a deceptive misnomer. as a substitute, think of of it as an intensive to section and a some distance section, because of the fact the comparable part of the moon constantly faces the Earth, no longer the solar. because of the fact the Moon revolves around the Earth, it is going by way of a lunar day, which takes approximately 28 Earth Days. We maximum in lots of situations do no longer constantly see the lit section; we are gazing it right now on for the time of an entire moon, see 0.5 of it in the process the quarter moons, and don't see it in any respect in the process the hot moon. And yet, the comparable terrain good factors are constantly dealing with us, consequently the "lit section" ought to alter.

Do you believe that half of the earth is always lit?

Or do you believe that when you are in darkness, the whole earth is in darkness?

Think about it for one second. Half of the sphere of the earth (the half facing the sun) is having "day". It is lit up. The other half is having "night".

If you stood in the right place out in space you could see part of the earth in darkness and part in light. The moon is the same. It is approximately a sphere. If you shine a light from one direction (the sun) half of it will be lit.

If you view the moon from the opposite side of the sun, it is all dark. View it from the sun side, it is all light. View if from anywhere else, you see a partial lighting.

Get a ball and a flashlight and find a dark closet. Good luck.

Moon has a night/day cycle just like any rotating body. It's just this cycle lasts 28 days. When the moon is in its full phase, it's "12 noon" and when it's in its new phase, it's "12 midnight". So no part of the moon is ever lit 100% of the time.

Real scientist here, but need real question to get real answer.
One side of moon always faces earth
One side of moon always lit.
During full moon, lit side and facing side the same.
During new moon, lit side and facing side opposite (facing side dark)
In between phases, a mixture of lit side and facing side, first and last quarter half lit, half facing.

There are your givens that are accepted true facts. What theories can you give?

That kind of annoys me too. Scientific question aren't about people personal world views - if they don't know the answer they should leave the question alone. It's particlarly annoying when people give answers that are just blatantly wrong, especially since the asker may not be able to tell whic answer are right and which are wrong.

It's because we got the term "dark side of the moon" into the lexicon. The dark side isn't always dark, the better name for this is the "far side" of the moon. The side that always faces away from us.

My statement: Whenever the moon is not eclipsed, partially or fully, one face - even if we can't see all of it - is always lit.
I am a real scientist
Now, dang it, WHAT IS YOUR QUESTION ??
