If you have UK or US wages, Greece will seem cheaper. Accommodation and transport are cheaper than the UK.
Food ranges. You don't get "buy 1 get 1 free" offers that often. They don't reduce stuff if they are about to expire.
Thessaloniki is less expensive than Athens.
The islands can be more expensive than mainland.
Some places in Crete will be cheaper than Corfu and Lefkada.
On average, Greece being cheap is a myth nowadays...

About apartment :
You can find a small apartment starting from 400 euro but it has to be for more than 3-4 months for that price.
Check on the special newspapers for ads, most of them are in Greek and if it's not an island or a touristic area most of the owners don't speak English.
In touristic areas is easier to find apartment to rent if it's not summer.
Corfu is great, I lived there a year. Thessaloniki is nice too but maybe not what you are looking for. Thessaloniki is the favorite city of most Greeks.

About food :
There is gyros and souvlaki (kebab) take aways every where in Greece. It's cheap and nice (3 euro each portion). There are also pizza and hamburgers take aways.
The prices in supermarkets are almost the same with most west European countries.
If you go to Thessaloniki you can eat for free at the student hostel (if you look under 30). The security is rarely asking for a student passport.

Live your myth in Greece !

Hello dear!
Saying "long rent" do you mean several months? In this case, the rent could be from 300 - 400 -500 and up! Additional cost will add up another 300 - 400 - 500 &?.
Food, depends, leaving in a home, will you cook? Cooking at home average food you will need anything from 300 and up, monthly.
Moving around, dependes on your habits and your plans!
