I really don't think you can..of course there are all the ones your being told: spicy food ( i ate jalepeno's whole w/cream cheese w/my 2nd one and so much mexican food w/all 3 of mine I swore they were going to speak Spanish); there's the bumpy roads; hitting railroad tracks hard; of course sex; horse back riding; someone scaring you/scarey movie/etc. They come when they are ready..unless you and your dr decide otherwise! ha ha

I was induced with all of my pregnancies. It is true that your contractions are more intense with the drug pitocin. My labor was very long with every baby (50 hours the first time, 36 hours the second time, 18 hours the third time) but I don't know if it was from the induction. I think I just have really bad luck!! My theory has always been that if you are going to end up having a c-section it will happen whether you are induced or not. But I think that there are studies stating that your risk of having a c-section is greater when you are induced. Being induced is pretty scary, but I had no choice...my body refused to go into labor on it's own. Everything turned out in the end. I have one suggestion though...get an epidural! It will relax you and take the pain away so you can enjoy the birth of your baby!! By the way, sorry about your loss :(

Nothing will truely work (including intervention from a doctor) until your body is physically ready for labor. Some of the old wives tales will work, however, only if your body is physically ready to give birth.

A note on the castor oil. Unless you want to end up violently ill, I would not try it. I have read many horror stories from women who tried it before the body is ready and it resulted in nothing more than horrible stomach cramping (which is what causes the contractions, if your body/baby isn't ready can cause great distress to the baby), and violent vomiting, as well as other things I am sure you can imagine. Not a route I would go.

I live in the Applachian Mountains in Ky. The most common way to induce labor without a doctors help is to use one tablespoon of castor oil. Where I live doctors sometimes even tell some patients to try it. I have known several people to do this and I know for a fact that it works.

you don't. there is no way. unless you have pitocin at home you are not going to induce labor with old wives tales so write a book about that so people won't waste their time trying.

well I'm sure you have heard about drinking Castro oil. That is the stuff you get a Wal-Mart and it is used to relieve constipation. Also walking, swimming, and having sex are great ways to get the labor going. I tried about all of them when I was pregnant with my last two children. Good luck with your book.

I've heard that light exercise helps induce labor. Other than that, you'll just have to wait.

The work really begins after the baby's born, so enjoy it while it's easy. :-P

I have heard that drinking castor oil will induce labor and my middle daughter was willing to try it, but her hubby stopped her.

Don't insert anything inside yourself, as they do in hospital - it is incredibly dangerous. But you can apparently kick things off, if you're very close to term, by eating spicy food, lots of pineapple (I have this on medical authority), and having sex. Good luck.
