Yes, there are ghosts- but we don't really know what ghosts are, that's the problem.
As I see it there are 3 kinds of ghosts-
1. Spirit of the dead trapped here- classic ghost
2. Psychic residue from traumatic event - this ghost is like a tape loop that plays over and over
3. Window in time where we can see the past or future.
There is also poltergeist activity, which is thought to be the
uncontrolled emotional energy of a young girl in the vicinity, and is not really a ghost.
I don't get faced with ghosts all that often but I just talk to them, as if there were a friend standing next to me instead of just a cold spot in the empty air.
ADDED:
It runs in my family, my mother and grandmother had great intuition...

I've noticed in studying near-death experiences that people see what they expect to see-if they are religious they see angels, if not they see the earth spirit in some sense...
and many see loved ones who have died previously (even if the near-death person didn't know that person was dead). What I'm trying to say is that some very confused dying people may not
realize they are dead, or they resist dying so strongly that they get trapped here. This is considered the "classic ghost", and I think this is actually very rare.

I think the more common ghost is the "residual emotion" ghost. This ghost has no consciousness, it is just a energetic replaying of the traumatic event again and again. While these can be truly scary, I think they fade eventually with enough time and work.

I think ghost-ness could happen to anyone on the wrong day. Faith won't save you, neither will science. The classic ghost often just needs help to realize they are dead and move on, or some are doing something they consider to be very important amd are not ready to move on. Lots of classic ghosts haunt places they lived, and they stay to maybe to warn others or to keep an eye on their beloved home.

The residual ghost is not an entire soul, just a soul fragment or echo, usually caused by a violent death. So my local hanged-man ghost is just a recording of what happened, that soul is not there any longer but the house is still badly haunted by the negative emotions set loose there.

I actually think the reading of the Tibetan Book of the Dead is very powerful, it's a guidebook on how to release your hold on the dying body and merge with the universe. It's read during dying, and for several hours afterwards as the soul lets go and travels to its rightful place.

I've learned some protections through my own shamanic practice, and I'm learning more through my friend's new learning set on Witchcraft (white, by the way). She is actually much more religious than I am, my friend the witch, and I am expecting to learn the Sephiroth and a bunch of other stuff...
Uh, get on with it already- Okay... For instance, I am blessing graveyards in my area right now.I take some time in my car to envision my helping spirits and to see myself putting on a protective cloak. Then I walk around the property, and on all its roads. Along the way if I feel anything I welcome it and I breathe it in. Then I get in my car, I go home, and I sit and meditate and feel everything I picked up breathed out and envision it going into the ground to be absorbed by the planet. Then I see myself taking off my cloak.

Anything else? I have felt dangerous things, I have sometimes avoided these things or gone forward to tell them they should tell me what they are. I know the website of an experienced ghost hunter where she warns of certain types of hauntings as being, she feels, non-human and very dangerous. I haven't had that feeling but I do not normally go wandering graveyards at night with instruments and cameras.Maybe I should, it might be fun. They do a protective prayer before they enter and when they leave.

I have a lot of theories but of course we only have so much proof-
There are measurable cold spots, there are photographic oddities, and there are voice recordings - are any of them ghosts?

And I think there are windows in time as well, that sometimes we can see through and decide not to get on that plane...
I've dreamed of talking to myself in the future and past- I think I'm my own guardian angel.

Use a PENDULUM. As it can swing in 4 directions---Left-right, forwards and backwards, clockwise circle and counter clockwise circle. The swings can be a code for no, yes, "I do not know" and "I do not wish to answer", respectively. You can ask the "ghost" (or yourself) questions and get the answer on the pendulum by its swing. Use a light or string about a foot long with a "bob" of some sort on the end (even a flat washer will work) It is called a "DeChevreul pendulum", named for the French Psychologist who used it to probe the subconscious mind of his patients,--YES it does work.--It is really a very ancient tool. Like the Ouija Board, it relies on the ideomotor principle, subconscious movements of the arm muscles to communicate with the subconscious mind. The PARANORMAL aspect is that we are said to have a "latent ESP" that also "lives" in our subconscious mind. And the pendulum may tap into THAT and let you get Psychic insights and communicate with spirits.

I wish I could find the source or be able to give some more details as to the source of my information.
I read an article were people who were terminally ill agreed to participate in. I believe it was done in the UK or in USA. A study of five terminal patients. they were placed on a bed/ table as they neared death, that recorded their exact weight, accurate to 100Th of an ounce. Every patient at the moment of death lost 2 oz of weight. It could not be explained , all contents stayed on the table ....body fluids etc....... Some say it was the weight of the spirit , or soul leaving the body... the point is the weight lost can not be explained. Ghost? Maybe............

Its an easy answer. Do you believe in a god? Also,,,do you think there is his opposite..the devil..the fallen one...or whatever you wanna call him? If you answer yes to both of these questions, then there is NOTHING in this world or out of this world that is NOT possible. Because if you believe theres a god and a devil..then ANYTHING else..including ghosts, is possible. ANYTHING
