well.. 16 MB is too very little. C'mon maaan.. 16 MB is prehistoric

128 MB would do fine.. but it is recommended that you use 256 MB .. if u sure wnna see some good graphics , being handled with ease , by your computer.

Since it is an "old" computer.. u would be using an SDRAM.. SDRAMs are costlier than RDs .

Trust me maan.. i had a very hard time running the apps on a 128 , so go for a 256 MB RAM ..

I u dont want to go for a RAM upgrade.. then sorry maan.. win 98 is for you!!

My personal recommendations for windows xp is no less than 384MB.

This is where you notice a big difference from there on out it seems the gains are minimal for the normal user.

128 lags, 256 lags, 384 she starts to smooth out quite a bit!

You having 16MB tells me your computer is more than likely older.
It's best to get a different computer, or if it's a custom computer with an ATX or mini ATX board get a new board, processor combo, and pickup some ram.

Estimate on a cheap board combo and ram? about $150

Microsoft recommends a minimum of 128mb or ram. 512 mb will make it run really good. A compaq that old probably will not support that much ram. Motherboards are spec'd out to support a certain amount of ram so if you purchase a 128mb stick and it doesn't support it then that may be why. To be honest you may have more success loading 2000 pro instead of XP.

YES!!! 16 Mb is nothing, you need at least 128 to run Windows Xp, and 256 is definately recommended. If I were you, I would think about upgrading the motherboard and processor as well... :-\ Is money a problem?

I'm pretty sure the installation won't let you continue until you install at least 128 MB.

definite, i'm working dwelling house windows XP on 2.8 GHz a million GB ram, and that i think of purely 28 MB photos RAM. incredibly, you need to even run dwelling house windows 7. I even have dwelling house windows 7 in this computing gadget besides, it works fantastic, the only concern is that it demands i think of 128 MB of video RAM for Aero subject concerns, so even that would artwork for you too. dwelling house windows XP is a sturdy equipment to enhance to, its very solid. dwelling house windows 7 is stable too, and lots much less complicated to apply. i might evaluate 7 additionally. do no longer pass with 8 however.

install XP SP2, the ram required should be minimum 128 MB. Further it also depends which processor you are using is it P1, P3 or P4 etc. If its p3 or p4 then you can get modest speed. If its p1 then ram upgradation may not help you much.
Think twice before upgrading. Calculate the cost of upgrading & then survey your markets, if you can get a cheap deal of new pc. Do check out on ebay or dell special offers.

Besides the amount of memory, your CPU is probably too slow (old) to run Windows XP effectively. You'll be sitting there waiting for screen refreshes alot.

32MB of memory, but XP runs sufficiently at 128 MB. But, I recommend for your computer 256. You can find them cheap on pricewatch.com

Likes others said....128 is minimum I think...256 is HIGHLY recommended...but I would go with 512...

Hit some place like Best Buy or Circuit City....the price is fairly low nowadays since more computers are coming with those speeds or higher.
