I just bought a house and the back door and garage door do not match the keys for the front and side doors. They are all quickset type except the garage and it is a schlag type. Thanks

The answer is no. I purchased a home two years ago and dealt with the same issue. Home Depot for sure, probably Lowes or a locksmith if you're not a do it yourselfer can rekey quickset and schlage locks. Quickset and schlage locks have different style of keys which means one key would not fit into both types of locks.

If you purchased another quicket for your garage, all the locks could use the same key. When I went through the process the price charged by Home Depot to rekey was $5 per lock (note, I removed the lock and took it to Home Depot). Not bad when you compare that to purchasing new locks.

Take the old key with you (the Home Depot employee will ask for it). For extra security don't have the new lock rekeyed to match your existing key, because anybody with a copy of the previous homeowner's key would be able to enter your house. It would cost a little more to rekey your existing locks to match the new quickset you purchase for the garage, but the piece of mind may be worth it.

If you take one of your keys and it will slide into all of the locks then yes you can...the grooves on the sides of the key usually differ from brand of locks...But...you will find that a locksmith will cost you more then just replacing the locks...You can get as many locks as you want that are keyed the same...on the package is a key code number and you just have to get the locks with the same code number...hope this helps

I would say that a good locksmith can re-key all locks to the same key but you will probably come out cheaper contacting one lock manufacturer that you like such as schlage (sorry about spelling) and have them send you a catalog of their lock styles that will fit your house then have all those new locks keyed the same.

Unfortunately, different lock manufacturers and companies purposely manufacture there locking mechanisms differently. This alows for "master key" key cutting for many lock smiths. If you shop around, you should be able to find replacement locks for all the applications that you mentioned, along with matching keys, fairly resonably priced. good luck
