Agreed.
But then look at Ireland... Soccer is a sub sport (Eiercom League) compared to GAA. Granted the Ireland International squad consists mainly of premiership or Championship Div. players and is decent although didn't qualify Euro 2004 or World Cup 2006. But Gaelic sports are still No. 1 here.

We have baseball, football, basketball and to a lesser extent, hockey, that are part of the American culture. All of these games have more of a history in this country than does soccer. There is a tradition, where fathers pass on the love of the sports to their children, and soccer has not gotten anywhere close to that point in the USA

Each country has its own game. US decided to give importance to football and basketball rather than soccer. But having entered late into the scene, I would definitely say that they put up a good show in the soccer world cup this month.

I don't know. But around the world, soccer is taken VERY seriously. I mean come on now, the mafia killed one of the players after Colombia lost. We can't expect to be the best in all the sports.

The big 3 in the US are NFL, MLB, NBA. Next is the NHL and then Track & Field (which is huge on a college level) A distant 4th would be Soccer, so to answer your question Soccer is the next up & coming but it will never get even close to the popularity of the big 3. WTF is Bocce ball???

That's probably true, but because we have other sports like Football, Baseball, and Basketball, there's not much fandom left over for Soccer.

Soccer is a great game, but, each country is different. Just imagine if we were all the same. How boring that would be.

If soccer wasn't such a mind-numbingly slow sport, it would catch on in the US. Our culture wants instant gratification. Soccer doesn't give us that. But I think you are right, as with anything the US puts its all into, we would come out on top.

Watching a bunch of guys in shorts running around on a field kicking a ball is not the average American's idea of a good time. We need loud engines (NASCAR) or a lot of violence (football). If we need a good long nap we watch baseball or golf.
