Though i think it is odd to want a turtle..when you already have a dog...its understandable because..you can NEVER have to many pets..lol. Well, try to get your mom to understand how much u want this turtle. and show how responsible u can be, and help her out. Be sweet, and show u can handle the job of this turtle. Good luck.

let her know that you have done your homework on the type of turle you are wanting to get. i have 3 red-eared sliders and they are still small but have a 55 gallon tank. these guys like most aquatic turles need a lot of water space. make sure the tank you get will be big enough for this turtle for life. buy the big tank now and you won't have to keep upgrading as the turle grows.

It's probably not the concept of the turtle itself, that your mother is against. It's the cost of the set-up and tank, and the need to have fresh veggies available daily. The occasional mealworms and crickets, to add protein to the diet.

ask someone to keep your dog while you "go on vacation" or something like that... someone who doesn't live close to you... like a teacher at school.... then tell your parents you can't find it, it got out, ran away... etc... cry, cry some more... keep crying until they give you a turtle... then go get your dog and bring it home acting all happy and surprised and yell, i found my dog, i found my dog!!! then you and the dog and turtle give each other secret smirks and glances and laugh at your parents together...

Turtles are not easy to care for pets, and they don't like handling. They also don't listen (although they feel vibrations) so don't make good confidantes.
I'd start with better reasons to want one than this.

what you can do is prove to her that you're responsible enough to take care of your dog while you have a turtle. I have two dogs and two turtles that's how I got my turtles! My advice to you is if you get a turtle don't get an aquatic one because they are hard t o take care of. especially if you have two of them and they aren't cheap to take care of. Good Luck!!!

try keeping one in a fenced in area outside. it would be a lot easier to take care of that way. just make sure that it can't get through the fence and nothing can get into it.
