Get some child-safety software.
There's key-loggers and all kinds of neat stuff.
There's even software you program so that they can't type in names or your home address.
Do a search for Internet child-safety.
Oprah did a show on it a few years ago and I've seen a link on the site of The Charmed.
But don't worry there's plenty of ways to watch your child's safety.
Put the computer in the living room, it's a cheap way to monitor.
But there are several monitoring tools available.
You can also search monitoring tools for small companies.
Children don't know about guys like Ted Bundy or Dutroux or that they also get on-line and make fake pages in MySpace or Friendster.
edit: A key-logger makes a log of every key she presses and will give you her passwords.
You can read all her IM's and mail.

If you get mail from a POP host, you simply need to set your email client to "Leave mail on server" which will make you get a copy of all inbound mail.
You can't get a copy of the outbound mail without actually using her computer.
There is a downfall to this though. If you access the server at the same time she does, one of you will temporarily be denied access, since the server will only allow one client to check at one particular time, although it won't break anything.

if her e-mail is a offshoot of your e0mail account, then you can check it anytime you choose, or if she usually checks her e-mail at home, you can install a program on your comuter that records all e-mails and IM chat conversations that enter or exit your computer. i was hip to my parents trying to do that to me when i was young, so i got a job and bought my own computer and phone line, so they could not monitor my online avenues without my administrator passwords (i even had my computer physically blocked by start up passwords and quizzes to find out who tried to access it)...

if she is using a web-based email you can't access without her password.
best to sit there and watch her while she is online. then take the power cord with you when you leave the house.
but this could cause an all out war between you.
