You may be suffering from depression. Perhaps you should speak with some one regarding this. Perhaps a guidance counselor, or a parent.
Pretentious teenager you are not, it is entirely normal to have feelings like this whilst in your teenage years. I won't bore you with 'how your body is changing' and whatnot, but the simple fact of the matter is that your hormones are going nuts.
Aside from the obligatory counsel, I understand completely what you mean. You could be doing something that everyone else thinks is the most fun thing ever. And you think "yeah, its cool, but whatever" Or like your on a roller coaster and everyone is screaming and throwing their arms up, and you're debating the benefits of changing car insurance companies.
I thought about this at length and decided that it was a matter of not being able to let myself go. To just have fun. Something that helped me is to stop taking life so seriously. Enjoy yourself. Easier said than done, of course. But do this. Do things you've never done before.
-Have you ever been rock climbing? No, I don't mean one of those wussy walls, I mean real cliff face climbing. Let me tell you, it doesn't have to be Everest at all.
-Have you ever eaten a 'real' chinese restaurant? Not one of those crappy american buffets.
-Have you ever traveled abroad? Pick a culture that really fascinates you, and learn its language. Attatch yourself to a local group of said language.
-Be a volunteer. Besides looking good on a resume, it will make you feel useful (that helped me a lot) It doesn't have to be something lame like picking up trash. In seattle, there is a local charity that builds computer with donated parts and sells them cheaply to low income families. Its a really neat program.
-Take up a new hobby. Do you have the slightest spark in something? Cultivate it! Plant a garden. Learn an instrument. Build a car.
-Learn something new. Even though I work in the IT field, I continue to help friends out who have businesses. Last night i learned how to strip waxed floors. The previous week i participated in a mold remediation. Expanding your experience base can give you direction, or at the very least tell you which paths you don't want to explore. (mold remediation)
-Write poetry. Seriously. I know it sounds lame, but looking back on some of the work I've done shows me how far I've come. Besides which, somehow I managed to get one published (no royalties yet :( )
Being bored with life sucks. But here's the good news. You're not bored with life. Your bored with *your* life. Expand. Take that old axiom literally "Take time to stop and smell the roses" Yes, literally. Don't worry about what other people think. Do what it takes to bring your joy back. Marvel at star filled night sky. Stare at an intricate flower. Ponder where belly button lint comes from.
The universe is filled with so much awe inspiring stuff, that if you look around, and see the world for what it is (besides all the depressing stuff) life can be amazing.
So, finally, the good news your soul is not dead. It's just in need of some stimulation.
Of course, it is entirely possible that you are experiencing clinical depression. But before you are forced to explore the world of pharmaceuticals and shrinks, engage yourself in being alive.

Before you try medications, explore other options,I take it you are a teenager, something about being a teenager that brings on the bad moods.Their are a lot of changes that I am sure you are going through, good ones and bad ones.
I know some will not agree with my thinking, but the word Joy is an overrated word, it is an emotion that is supposed to make you feel good, but we have been sold on Euphoria, because in our country we have everything at our fingertips, and if we feel bad or sad their is a way out, but I believe that since we do have everything that is the root of some of our problems.
Joy is something that has to be worked on, the last person that people want to talk to are there parents, because they think their parents don't understand, and that is probably true,
I know that there are a lot of teenagers out there that would say that their soul is dead, but that means you can still feel, if you know its dead, it will revive, get busy with something new in your life even if you have to volunteer in a hospital, helping those who have no one can be very rewarding, and it can make you smile.
Sorry for going on and on. feel free to e-mail me and tell me I am all wrong

This situation can happen to anyone, at any age. Normally this happens when we find life to monotonous and mundane. In order to continue seeing life and finding the "light" you need to open your eyes.
Open your eyes to your actual surroundings....Look at those around you that love you - What do they want to see you become?
Look at yourself and explore YOU from the inside out. Make a list of who you are today, and who you want to be in the future.
Then start making another list called "THE PLAN" - The plan should outline what needs to be done to reach your goals, dreams and ambitions. (If you don’t know what to do next, ask a parent or teacher or guidance counselor.)
All of these lists will help you to OPEN you mind (which right now is very closed).
CHANGE AND CREATE CHANGE.
Join a sports club or join some form of team sport. You are either a loner or a leader that doesn’t know what direction to go next. Change all of that and learn what its like to be part of a team.
You can't go through life on your own; you need friends, family and support.
Be independent, but not isolated.
Start to read more books and again open your mind. Knowledge is power and it is your mind that controls your destiny and path in life.
Most importantly CHANGE NOW. TODAY. IMMEDIATELY. YOU HAVE NO TIME TO WASTE. LIFE IS TOO SHORT.
MOTHER NATURE IS A SWEET FRUIT.
Enjoy life and be well little buddy.

well the first step to recovery is admittance. you're admitting that you have a problem. the next step is talking to someone you trust like a teacher or guidance counselor or someone that you are close to. once you do that and recognize that you really want and need help then take the therapy and steps required to bring your soul back to life. another thing that you can do is go out a little more not with phony people but with people who genuinely care for and about you. try to get yourself back in the groove of trying to have fun and get a journal or diary and write about your problems. you will be alright. trust me i know i went through it so you can learn from me and my feelings if you have any questions you can e mail me @ supergirl331117@yahoo.com
navyhm1983 you suck this is a serious problem you should have more compassion for others or if you had nothing nice to say then write nothing.

Have you tried to go to your doc for antidepressants? They can really help if you get the right dosage. Antianxiety medicine can help too. A really good friend to dump on never hurts, and opening up and talking to your parents can often change your life.
Good luck, nobody should have to go through life feeling the way you do. I hated being a teen, that is one of the reasons I hope we don't have to live our lives over and over and over again!
