Leaving Behind ~ His Wife ~ And Kids.
The Pain His Wife Went Threw,
So Sad, She Loved Him So Deeply.
John Lennon Was A Man That,
Did What HE BELIEVED IN,,
He Never Cared What Others Thought,
All He Wanted Was Peace.

Biggest tragedy in music history! I wasn't alive but when I hear his music I always think of what a great musician he was and what an influence as an activist and especially musician he was. He was all about peace and music and he never deserved to get shot. On the 25th Anniversary of his death I made a t-shirt honouring Lennon and was listening to the all Lennon special on my classic rock station. Thank you John Lennon!

I didn't think so. I was up working on a journal for college that I should have been doing all semester and was due the next day when they broke the news. The hostages were still in Iran and I thought they were going to tell us that they had been released because there had been talk that they would be released for the holidays. I got soo excited! I was kinda annoyed that it was just John Lennon. I mean, the Beatles were good but, know....

for me not so much... not that i didnt like john... but i've seen just so much of this in my life i guess i've gotten callus.. but for many people it was traumatic... and it should be sad because a good man was killed .sad because another mans life came to him "having" to kill another.... it is good when people can see and feel the tragedy of this. this compassion shows there is still hope and love in a society.... people still morn john lennon's death today... and thats a good thing.... a wise man once said ," i can tell with mathematical exactness the civility of a society by how they treat their dead"..... but me, i just seen too many come and go..... i say a prayer , maybe 2 or three... but no more tears..... and thats sad.....to answer your question as it is asked: yes in was a very sad occasion for many people . it was well publicized and large crowds of people morned openly... although most people went about business as usual as is the way especially here in new york.... i'm guessing you were too young to remember.... but it was comparable to the death of JFK in the early 60's

Yes it was. I was working at a nightclub the night he died and the band had just taken a break to eat--out in the kitchen we heard the news and broke it to the band, who in turn broke the news to the audience. It was an emotional evening and a lot of us cried. I will never forget where I was or what I was doing. He was a legend.

YEs it was I was too young to understand at the time but I still get tears to my eyes every December the 8th and he is not the only guitarist killed on a December the 8th as Dimebag Darryl of Pantera was also killed by a deranged fan 24 years later to the day.

If you can ask that question then I cant believe that you were into his or the Beatles music beforehand, or how his/their music revolutionized and influenced music, even to this day. Also he came to represent to a certain extent an entire generation. This isn't intended to sound accusatory, but you should understand the historical significance of the man and his music. I'm not saying he was a god or anything, and he wasnt of my generation, but his relevance in regards to popular music is still felt even today.

It's supposed to be that way! Even if it isn't John Lennon.

Here's an analogy: would the world cry if Chris Martin from Coldplay died suddenly?
