I am Dutch and there are lot of black Dutch people. Many come from Suriname or the Dutch Antillen, which used to be Dutch kolonies.

There are many not-white people living here that are just as Dutch as an African-American is American.

I beg to differ with the above answers. Back in the late 1800s-early 1900s there was great stigma in marrying and/or having children with the native American peoples. Sad, but true. Those of us who had one or more native relative were taught in those days not to say we had Cherokee, Arapaho, etc, blood, but instead to say we were partly Black Dutch. I found out I am part Cherokee, but when we went to family reunions and any of the old folks were there, this was a totally forbidden subject. I am proud of that heritage today, but I guess, not living in those years, I can't judge what the social climate was then.
