yes it does I have had them going on for 7 years now they last 5 then you get it changed .Sometimes I hardly even got a period.
If you are unsure of the coil try the contrception injection it can reduce or you don't get periods.

Is that the procedure that is done when the cervix is dilated and then a coil is inserted into the uterus and a laser burns the lining? If that is it, yes it works. I had that done in Nov.2004 and haven't had a period since. It is done as an outpatient and there is minimal pain. I had it done on a Thurs. and by Mon., I couldn't tell. It was the best thing that I ever did.

Yes for me the mirena has been a god send! I have not had a period for three years now, and it has been a massive improvement to my quality of life!

I had a hysterectomy because my heavy periods were caused by massive fibroids.

So I guess it depends on why you have heavy periods.

I was offered one by my gynecologist but my friend who had one fitted advised me not to go ahead with it. She said that it made her periods heavier.
Three months later she told me that it had started to work and that she wished she'd had one years before she did.
My advise to you is to go for it. I wish I had.

I use poise pads or depends for sleeping. during the day use overnites on the heaviest days.
