Because (and this is my opinion), but it rings a bell with alot of people. A kid in a bad situation finds out he's famous (basically that's the gist of it). However, he then finds out he's good at sports too.

The problem with this story is that Harry Potter didn't do anything to earn all this recognition. Because his parents made a sacrifice for him, he becomes famous (that's an overview - to get the details you'd have to read the book). Then when he finds out he's great at sports, he gets treated better than everyone else even more.

A poor lesson to teach kids today in my opinion. Harry Potter didn't "do" anything to gain recognition or fame. The real hero of the book should be Hermione Granger, because she's a good student.

But you just walk away with a "hey if my parents do stuff for me or I'm good at one thing that will make me stand out, then I'll be famous too!" kind of feeling.

I personally read all the books and thought they were mediocre. If you want to read a good author, go read Pat Conroy's "The Great Santini" (based on his dad), or his book "The Lords of Discipline". Also check out Sidney Sheldon, he is an amazing author (and great storyteller). J.K. Rowlings couldn't hold a candle to these two authors.

It must have been a spell which made people go mad after harry potter because there seems to be nothing new in it as compared to the stock of the mill magic tales.

Personally, I like the fantasy element. I like the magic, that makes it so unrealistic. I like the light, mystical, fantastic quality that removes me momentarily from real life and my everyday problems. And I like the fact that although it is magical and therefore unreal, it feels like it could be, like it makes sense that IF there were witches and wizards, this is what they might be like. And, for the most part, the story line is strong and carried well, and the movies differ only slightly from the books.

It is a good book, if you go through all six books so far you can see hints for tons of stuff in the later books, at every angle you look at those books u see something new and that is the definition of a good book

The books are creative, with a well thought out plot and characters. Details are given special attention.
