Our politicians are working on this, they pick what gets them elected, not something that would solve a problem

Guns can kill people from a distance, and with very little thought. There is no time for the user to really consider the potential consequences when all he/she has to do is pull a trigger. On the other hand, with a knife you generally have to look at the person up close and have more awareness of what you're doing.
Also, guns only have two basic purposes: to kill and to seriously injure. Knives, hammers, rocks, sticks...they all have multiple purposes. Poison? Maybe. Cancer and AIDS should definitely be made illegal. How do you suggest THAT is enforced, though?
I think the way things are is ok: the OBJECTS don't need to be made illegal, it is KILLING with them that is a crime.

No, guns should not be illegal. Everyone needs rights. The people who founded the United States knew what they were doing when they made guns legal for people to own and keep. If the government were to get corrupt we would have pretty much no way of fighting back if guns were illegal. But now as it is we have a way of fighting back if needed. Yes, there are some negative effects of guns being legal but that's another issue.

I don't think that any of them should be made illegial.
I think use of them in a brutal hostle way should be illegial.
Some people, though my opinion is that its horrible, like to hunt. They shouldn't be told to not be able to hunt because they could kill someone, Thats bull.
What if someone needs to nail something with a hammer? What if a poison is used in a medical study and is now illegial?
HOW CAN CARS AND CANCER AND AIDS AND ROCKS AND STICKS BE ILLEGAL!?

Guns SHOULDN"T be made illegal. But you're right, if they're made illegal, then all that stuff should...and while were at it lets outlaw forks and knives b/c they must make our country fat, and lets get rid of pencils b/c they mispell words and make us think our kids are stupid. OR.....we could just get rid of the stupid people that actually think that outlawing guns will stop the bad guys from having them...like a person that doesn't care about human life is really gonna care about a gun law!!!

Some fire arms are made for combat, some knives are also made for the same poupose. A 22cal rifel should not be made illegal, but the question is should something like a M-16 be illegal ?
By all rights no, it is ourconstational right to bear arms, that is because this country should have the ability to rise up if the goverment tries to surpress us.

Oh yeah. Because like knives, guns also have so many other primary puposes, like surgery, cooking and carving wood.
Hammers can be used as weapons. So can football trophies - and hockey sticks - but is that their INTENDED use?
And let's not forget icicles! The ULTIMATE untraceable murder weapon!
Guns have ONE purpose and ONE pupose only. And too often they fall into the wrong hands and disaster results.
And spare me the hunting excuse. No one hunts with a Beretta, a Magnum or AK-47.
Your point might be better made with intelligent argument.

I assume that all you gun-rights activists believe the same rights apply to the people of Iraq as well. It seems to be working very well for them to allow every religious zealot with a cause to walk around with rifle. Heck, we should throw in some TNT and personal-size nukes as well.
What? You mean the U.S. military is trying to disarm Iraqis? And all that weaponry running around loose might be causing civil disorder? No, no. See, the weapons aren't doing anything, because if they were then soldiers wouldn't be worried about them. Guns don't kill people, heavily-armed militias kill people!
Oh well, this turned out to be a weirder post than I intended. My basic point: obviously it takes violent intent for guns--which are just tools--to harm people. Reality is, though, that even peacable folks have violence in their hearts at times. Guns make that intent easier to make into reality. Thus, sensible controls on them are just common sense, which the NRA-which could just serve as a means to protect hunting rights--obviously lacks.

Guns are not the problem, it's society. Gun control is a quick fix to a deeper problem, and quick fixes don't work. Leave guns alone. A firearm is a tool, for food gathering, recreation and defense. Farmers and ranchers use them to control predators, put sick livestock out of misery. It can be abused like everything else we abuse, like cars, our families, or anything else.
Obviously those who want to label certain types of guns never used one to defend themselves, or their family, and in my case not firing a shot. Whether it's a "belly buster'' or an "assault rifle" doesn't matter.
To the person 2 frames below, Beretta makes fine hunting and skeet shooting shotguns, the term "Magnum" can refer to many fine rifle hunting calibers, hunting deer with a 44 magnum pistol, or a 357 magnum pistol is a legitimate sport in my state, and I think I covered the "AK" above. To those who have no use for these items, there is no way many would know these things.

This is what is called a "strawman" argument. And not a very good one.
No one is really saying that "guns should be made illegal." Some are saying that some kinds of guns should be. And that some people (violent felons, children, the mentally unstable) should never have guns.

No freaking kidding!!! People that WANT to kill other people will always find a way! And all the people that think just "some" guns should be banned are wrong too! The bad guys will have them regardless.
