I have a '90 Chevy G-20 panel van. The 305 cid is blown and the 10-bolt rear-end will need to be replaced. Is it possible to have a smaller 6 cyl motor installed instead of the 305? I'm looking for gas milage. The van will only hold a small amount of amateur radio gear and may only pull a small, lawn-mower trailer for the gasoline-powered power generating unit.

Most come with a 6 from the factory , so motor mounts and parts are had easy at any parts store. Nice thing about G M is most parts are interchangable, so you will have no problem. You dont lose gas miliage , just horsepower, so it may take longer to get up to speed.

Some items that may correct it;oxygen sensor, new spark plugs, may need distributor cap and rotor, may need new plug wires ,needs 195 degree water temp.thermostat so engine will warm up to operateing temperature,Engine timing may be set wrong,May have vacuum hose leaks that need repair. Auto stores sell a water dispersant called "Heet" in a red bottle that will help pass smog test.Follow instructions on the bottle. Best wishes for a PASS cert.

if your doing it for gas milage it will suck,....the van will still weigh the same and puttin a smaller motor in it will only make it go slower and work harder, therefore usingmore gas
