Any pet is nice, but I personally prefer a dog. I have a dog that I adopted from the humane society. She was only 9 weeks old when I got her. There are so many puppies, older dogs and cats there that need a good home to call their own. She needs alot of love and attention, but she definately gives it back. Some cats are not apt to be as friendly and affectionate as a dog will generally be. And as for the person who said not to get a hamster because it will give you rabies, hamsters are not just born with rabies. I would imagine that you vaccinate them just like you would a dog or cat. Or any of your pets for that matter. I hope you find the pet that is right for you. Don't forget to take your lifestyle and how much free time you have into consideration. If you are a very busy person and don't have much time to devote, maybe the hamster or something of that nature would be better suited for you. Good luck!!

Whatever you have time for...cats are good for people that dont have a lot of time...dogs are for people that have time to train them and spend time.
I do have to comment about the person that said hamsters can give you rabies. You have more a chance of a cat or dog giving you rabies than a hamster. Rabies is transfered through a bite/saliva. Normally an animal as small as a hamster will not survive a bite from something with rabies.

That depends on your lifestyle. If you want a warm loving compainon who doesn't need much human influance or can entratian himself start thinking cat. Cats are good for people who go to work and don't have much time to spend with a pet. Cats are independant.
However, if you are looking for a compainon who you can train, play with and you have lots of time to spend with, think dog. Dogs need to go on walks daily and a good backyard. But they mostly need a firend to play with!
Now, if you have little or no outside area, hardly any time to be with a pet, and don't mind major smells, then get a hamster. Hamsters are small and don't need a human to entertain them, but they don't play with you or can you train them. Hamsters are completly human depentant.
Pick a pet that best fits you!

Well, whatever you get please be sure that you are willing to make a life long commitment to the animal. I am in rescue and the things that I have seen just because people get bored with their new pets is horrifying. I urge you to not get a pet on an impulse. I know how exciting a new pet can be. If you are going to make the commitment, then please adopt a rescued dog or cat, even smaller pets are sometimes at your local humane society.

Cat. They only require food, water, a litter box, and affection. They are more personable then dogs or hamsters, as well as more affectionate. They don't take up a lot of space if they sleep with you. They are playful. They have a personality. Lastly, dogs and hamsters don't purr.

A dog will get you out walking and out of the house and it's a great way to meet other people especially other dog owners because if there are enough dogs in the area where you live a dog walking club can be form.

no hamster for sure too time consuming to cleanup after them properly...dogs r good if u have a lot of time to spend with them they r like kids they need lots of love and attention....cats r good cuddle friends and clean themselves, they house train very easy and don't have to have all of your attention 24 hours a day...so i would say a cat if you have kids since kids take a lot of time and attention ...but a dog if u have no kids because you can give them all your love and attention with out taking from your kids

I enjoy cats. I have had all three of them and i enjoy cats the most. Cats are loyal and independent but at the same time want to cuddle or sleep with you. They enjoy petting and are low maitenance. You dont have to worry about walks or letting them outside!
