I DO!!!! its a serious waste of tax dollars

For all the billions of dollars that have been poured into this organization year after year, it seems as though a few good things "should" be the result of it. What they have done is not anything that the private sector could not have done if they had their kind of budget.

Overall there have been some interesting "science" concepts come from this organization. It is too bad that they have messed up what they are supposed to represent with pontifications. Such as: the rock found at the south pole definitely coming from the planet Mars (as if that were the only other body in our solar system). If they know so much about that planet, why send a "Rover"?

Then there are "black holes". They can say they have pictures of them, but it is all speculation. It wouldn't be so bad if they would state what is speculation and what is not, but they treat theory as fact and this leads people into believing what may or may not be true.

NASA is absolutely essential. At some point in time, life on planet Earth will not be possible. Either some asteroid or comet will collide with us, or some other natural or man made disaster will wipe out all humans on the planet. If we have not, by that time, managed to survive in space in a self sustained manner, the human race will perish from existence. I know there are many liberals who think the money could be better spent feeding the world's hungry, and many conservatives who feel that the money is better off in the taxpayers pockets. The truth is, there is great direct and indirect benefit to all from space exploration.

NASA doesn't suck. The problem is that it is funded by the government which also means that the government determines its priorities. This in itself is a double-edged sword, because a stupid government will have stupid goals (Bush and his half-assed man exploration) and a smart government will have smart goal (Clinton and his push for robotic exploration).

An alternative would be to have NASA run by a private corporation, which I don't think would be much better, since they would be interested in making money through launching more satellites rather than take risks and explore the solar system.

For all the people who think NASA is a waste of money, I have always wanted to compile a list of things they have invented. Then, have those people remove anything on the list from their daily lives to see how their quality of life is affected. Simple things like don't use any device that transmits information by use of a satellite (like TV, some cell phone calls, the internet etc), anything with a UV or a scratch resistant coating (go use cheap sunglasses and let your eyes get burned out), and get rid of anything with Velcro on it.
NASA is one of the best things to ever come out of any government anywhere. But, then again, you're right, maybe we were better off living in caves.

I think fear and politics have made them less glorious then they used to be. Being a child of the 70's I kind of feel cheated that it's not all moon bases and space stations by now.

But all that aside, NASA does provide an indispensable service to earth science and astronomy.

i dont know a lot about nasa. im sure theyve done some awesome things that have helped us a lot. im kind of against space exploration though. i dont think space discoveries near justify the money spent on them. there are so many more practical uses for all that money!

NASA most certainly doesn't suck, I'm not from NASA, but they only want to expand the knowledge of our oh so tiny planet.
