It can be. A higher than normal oil pressure reading typically indicates that some oil passages are partially or completely blocked. On a freshly rebuilt engine it often means that the main and connecting rod bearing clearances are too tight. It can also mean that you are using far too heavy an oil for your engine.

It's also possible that the gauge is defective. A mechanic can test the oil pressure with a certified gauge and verify this quickly and cheaply.

In any case, you need to investigate the cause and have it repaired quickly as major engine damage can result.

The oil rigidity gauge is meant to be a trademark in uncomplicated phrases. diverse gauges artwork a touch in yet otherwise. they're regularly extremely wide-spread for all the vehicles of a particular sort. Ford gauges have a tendency to change into defective extra usually then different manufacturers I easily have seen. at the same time as they do they examine too low it is a good component because it receives your interest. Oil rigidity builds up steadily because the engine rpm will strengthen. regularly an illustration of over a million/2 of the guage holiday is favourite for street. the genuine component about an oil gauge is that you realize what it frequently does that you need to tell at the same time as it isn't reading favourite. at the same time as the engine is idling the rigidity will steadily shrink to a decrease factor then it has for street p.c.. fairly usually this may recommend that it's going to examine less than the a million/2 mark. this isn't something to be alarmed about. you need to be alarmed even if it isn't reading favourite for the present p.c. of the engine. once you're extremely low on oil, The rigidity won't be able to builld up precise. that's definately something to be alarmed about. Then it really is time to close off the engine previously you burn it up. As an engine a at the same time as the oil rigidity will shrink very very steadily.

It could be a potential problem:

#1- the oil sending unit is malfunctioning.

#2- the wiring to from the sending unit to the dash guage has corroded and not making good contact.

#3- the dash guage is bad - this requires a disassembly of the dash to check the guage and either replace or reste (bummer)

I'm no mechanic. But this is the situation I have with my '95 Ford F-150. My mechanic said mine was the #3 and at $65. per hour, I just live with it and check the oil level weekly in the truck.

I hope this answered your question; :-)
