You first figure the volume, "Break out the calculator"
length x the width would give you area of your project
Mulitply this times the thickness, generally 4 inches
so muliply your area times .25 on your calculator and then divide by 27 sq ft
don;t try to be exact if you order a small load of concrete you still end up with an even number example: 5.45 cubic yds is what you need you will get 6

A cubic yard is 27 cubic feet. Multiply length times width times thickness in feet. A one cubic yard cube would be 3 feet in each direction - 3 x 3 x 3 = 27

i do concrete for a living the easiest way is for a 4 inch slab length times width divided by 81
