Call a locksmith.

Honestly, some do safe work, some don't. But that will be your best bet--assuming that you don't want to do anything destructive in the process.

Read the part about Richard Feynman cracking safes at Los Alamos in "Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman." You'll love it. You'll get some good advice on things to try first. But to tell the truth, the only real way to do it yourself is to methodically go through every possible combination in a systematic way until you cover all the possibilities. One of them will eventually have to work. Of course, this is a job for someone with no life. (It would pay to try to contact the company and make sure it's a three-number combination, for instance.)

See if you can find the name of manufacturer of the floor safe, and locate a pin number that identifies the safe. The manufacturer might have files on the specific floor safe, and might have stored the combination.

1. Call a locksmith.

2. Try combinations randomly. Hey, if your safe uses three numbers up to 50, that's only 50^3 = 125000 to try. A long afternoon. :-)

3. Find out who owned it before and ask them what it is.
