Our society, especially this generation, is full of codependent conformists who do/say what the media tells us to. We have become robotic and numb, because real emotions are not important anymore. Anybody who has morals is looked down upon as weak and dull. Everything is so corrupt. People as a whole don't care about each other. We can sit here in front of our computers and read about genocide and about famine and not care because it's not happening to us, but if something that has to do with fashion, gossip or sex comes along, we all have to get on the bandwagon. Our generation is a weak one. We've done nothing for the world, but accept everything the media feeds us, and that makes me feel bad, because previous generations have stood up and changed so many things, and the only thing our generation is known for is thinking it's ok to sleep around. What a great legacy we're leaving behind.

Yes, a lot of people do get caught up in how other people tell us and want us to look. But, I am proud to say I am NOT one of those people. Society, no matter how hard you can try, will always be have a few assholes that want to wreck things for everyone else, and really its sad that some people can't think for themselves because of the pressure to be like everyone else. If more people could, this whole world could be different, and people could accomplish soo much more.

Deidre O'Dwyer, a good Catholic Colleen such as yourself asking this question. Your old Irish Grandmother would be ashamed of you. The mere asking of such a question suggests that the answer is in the asking. If you could think for yourself, and believed faithfully in what you think, you would not be interested in what society thought. Free thinking is the only way that mankind will go forward and here's a thought for you: 'A single original thought is worth more than all the thoughts that preceded it'. Think about it......... Personally, I have never given two hoots for what other people think, provided I am happy that I am doing the right thing AND for the right reason. Anyway, Deidre (of the Sorrows) an excellent question and by the way, is your brother that famous Jockey, if so, any tips............. (Good luck and God bless)........

No matter what you do, you can not control how other people see you. It is important to leave a good impression because it could mean the difference between getting a job, getting a mate, or simply impressing your in-laws. As a society we judge each other on our looks and possessions because we often do not have time to learn who a person really is. It's just the way it is.

NO, we dont generally think for ourselves(this is an over all opinion..i realize that not every person on earth fits this statement)....we are brainwashed from birth...becides the fact that we are all overwhelmed with what society thinks and expects from us(especially women who are made to believe that if you dont fit a certain profile you ammount to nothing)when in reality independence and individuality are what really make a person beautiful...the world really is in some ways a matrix where we believe and think what others want us to

the majority of people do get caught up with how other people want them to look. take anorexic girls for example. they want to be just like the 80lbs models they see in magazines and on the tele. our society freaking sucks when it comes to looks.

Depends on where you are at in life. During the teen years you get caught up...some people never grow out of it.
