You can only play videos on an ipod video. It's confusing at first to figure out how to set it up and everything. I would only get one if you REALLY need it. If you love listening to music doing other things at the same time, then I'd advise it because it's really light. But, if you're the kind of person who loses thing, don't get one.

I've got one, and it's worked well for me. The only instance in which it wouldn't be good for someone is if they want lots of songs on their iPod, especially if they're into classical music or something and they want symphonies/ really long songs on there. It can only hold so much, so in that case it might be better to get one of the bigger iPods. I know that some people have had issues with the screen getting scratched, so make sure that if you get a Nano to get a good cover first. I recommend the iSee Nano, which covers just about the entire iPod and is clear so you can see any engraving you get on the back.
If you don't want that kind of cover, then get a screen protector. If you don't then you'll regret it later.
I don't think that you can play videos on them, but it might be possible. The only one I know for sure can do it is the video iPod.
Also, if you are considering getting a Nano, it's good to get it through Apple's web site. Then you can get any engraving for free.

I've seen people play videos on the iPod nano too! But I'm not sure how they do it! I think Linux has something to do with this! But they are good!

NO READ BELOW:
I personaly do not like iPods, so here is my recomandations:
If you want a player that just plays music i would recomend an iRiver H10 (comes in 5gb, 6gb, or 20gb). I had one that i bought at Amazon for just over 200 bucks that I loved till the second that someone else decided that they liked it enought to steal it away from me at school. (Curse them!!!)
If it had'nt been stolen from me i am sure that i would still be using it to this day.
I am now looking for a Creative Zen Vision:M to replace it. Brand new from creative it is $300 but i have found it cheaper on ebay and amazon. This is a 30gb player that also plays movies.
And of course , as it loooks like you are trying to, you could jump on the iPod bandwagon. I am choosing not to because it ONLY works with iTunes where i want whatever i get to work also with WMP 10.
If your route is the same as mine (using windows media player), i recomend going to Playsforsure.com. Here you can do the best search on the internet (in my opinion) for MP3 players that are Plays for sure compatible. You can select the size (memory and phisical), color, what you want inside your mp3 player and plenty of other things tat i cant even list. This is how i found both of my mp3 players that i have either bought or am currently buying.
So as you can see,
it really depends on what you are really looking for, how much space, and the condition of the player.

ipod nanos are nice if you have less than 1,000 songs. And the statement that you have to spend 1,000 bucks on songs is incorrect if you use a music converter you can transfer wmas or w/e into mp3's I've done it or you can just rip cds into your computer. My brother has one and he loves it. Videos can only be played on ipod video.

If you want to spend $1000 on songs, go ahead. iPods don't play WMA files--only mp3s, which means you can't use cheaper music providers such as Yahoo Music Engine.

the real function of it is it's size. it fits about a few hundred albums. i would recommend a more durable version like the shuffle. it is quite fragile and requires a few accesories in order to protect it from damage. i gave mine away.

No, you cant play videos on them...But still, they are good, easy to carry and stylish :) Beware though, they break easily, so dont keep it in your jeans pocket or so.
