You're not required to use AOL to access the internet if you're paying for highspeed cable Internet service.

If you have an AOL email account that is your primary email account (instead of you@yahoo.com or you@hotmail.com), then you will either want to continue using and paying for the AOL service, or you can create a new account through either your internet cable service, or one of the free email services like Yahoo. I suggest you drop AOL like a bad habit. It may be a bumpy transition as old friends transfer to your new email address, but cutting the ties to AOL is a good thing.

If you originally set up AOL service before you got cable internet service, then you should definitely drop AOL.

A word of warning: I answered another question about free AOL service a couple of days ago, because I've read a lot recently about people having major troubles cancelling their AOL service. Read my post, and follow my links. You can hear an actual conversation with an AOL customer service representative, and read another person's account of what happened when they tried cancelling their service.

You have every right to cancel your AOL service, and you absolutely should if you don't need them anymore. Just let the person know that you talk to if/when you cancel the service that you're aware of the recent news stories and expect to be treated with respect and full cooperation.

I hope that helps you!

No, you don't.... Unless you wish to maintain you AOHell email address, etc. Your local cable company will have a home page similar to AOL that you can customize to your hearts' content. No point in paying twice for the same service in my book.

Besides AOHell is kinda like internet for dummies. Not counting all of the tracking software that they load into your computer without permission that is damn near impossible to eliminate from your registry.

Do you really need AOL if you have a faster service through your cable company?

No. Unless you want access to AOL exclusive content, cancel AOL as fast as possible. Then remove all AOL software from your system, It will be like you bought a new computer once you remove this junk from your system.
