I am trying to avoid phone lines as an extra cost and my sat. provider does not offer dsl.

Get cable internet, and use a wireless router.

Some phone companies and cable companies will provide ISP services even though you do not subscribe to their primary offering. Call and ask? There are also other possibilities including access via cellular technology or microwave service.

If you go wireless you will get a small square dish which you can place on your house that will send and receive all the information, SO NO PHONE LINES NEEDED.

In the box you get
- small dish and bolts
- modem
-and all wires needed

You'll need a wireless router and a card for your PC/laptop.

You can get a cellular card for you laptop (if you have one) and use the cell towers for internet, and you can use it anywhere there is cell service, 59.99 a month for unlimited usage through verizon for me.
