Because I believe in smaller government, state's rights, personal responsibility, and strong national defense.

The FIRST Republican President was Abraham Lincoln. That's a pretty good reason for starters.
I'm Republican after years of suffering as a Democrat. I got a job, bought a house and I grew up. As a Dem, all I heard was what we were AGAINST, not what we were for. It got old and tiring. When I woke up and saw the difference between Reagan and Carter, I vowed NEVER to vote Dem ever again. Thank God because I don't know how I would have lived with myself if I had voted for Clinton. I can't understand what the Democrats are FOR. When I look at organizations such as the ACLU, I shudder. Why am I Republican? Because this is a country where we can CHOOSE to be what ever we want to be AND NOT be persecuted.
Thank God for that.
Here's a little history 101 for you
FDR (Dem) declared war on Germany, Germany didn't attack us, Japan did.
Truman (Dem) dropped NOT ONE, BUT TWO Nuclear bombs on Japan. Truman ALSO got us in Korea, Korea never attacked us.
JFK (Dem) got us into Vietnam, LBJ (Dem) got us DEEPER into Vietnam turning it into a quagmire.
Nixon (Rep) got us OUT of Vietnam
Carter (Dem) while under his watch, many US citizens were taken hostage in Iran. He did NOTHING
Reagan(Rep) got them out upon his election.
Clinton got us into Bosnia ( we are still there 10 years later) Made a mess of Somalia and we were attacked by terrorists at the WTC and who here can forget the US Cole? Clinton DID NOTHING. Clinton had OSB head on a platter, HE DID NOTHING
You wonder why I'm Republican? It should be quite obvious.

Mainly because I believe the rights of citizens outweigh the power of the government. I believe that the government should favor states rights over government control. I believe the American people are more than capable of taking care of themselves and don't need politicians running their lives. I believe that a nation can only exist through the protection of the right to bear arms. I believe in free speech. I believe that high tax rates only hinder the power of the American economy. I believe that the United Nations is a powerless organization. And most of all, I believe in liberty and justice for all.

Because I voted for Clinton and cringed for 4 years.
I am a moderate conservative. Give me a better candidate, and I'll vote for them. I expect to be able to find out what they actually believe on issues I care about, however, unlike Kerry.
Mike, take into account the delay of impact from economic policy and try that again. What about Reagan?

Ok, I'm not a republican but I support some of their ideas. I'm anti-abortion because I think that life starts at conception, I'm pro-death penalty (if it is 100% definite) because those people do not deserve a second chance. If they have killed more than 2 they have already given that up.
However I'm not pro killing all the A-rabs!

Because I don't like the Democrats ideals. Before all of this Bush-hating (Bush bashing is really too soft), I might have considered the Democratic party, but I am soooo disappointed and, frankly, appalled with their tactics, that I couldn't possibly consider being anything else.

Why are you not a Republican? Seriously, people are different and have different beliefs. Otherwise the world would be boring and dull.
