Gandolf and Elrond goes on the ship too. They are going to a place known as the Grey Heavens. It is a land to the west of middle earth. What it is exactly, I am not sure. It seems like a place where time stand still and the elves and those who live there never cease.

They're sailing West into the Grey Havens, or Mithlond.
Tolkien only alludes to it in The Lord of the Rings, but tells all about it in The Simarillion. It's the magical homeland of the Elves that only they can reach and is surrounded by a barrier that makes the island invisible. Most of the Elves left Middle-Earth for the Grey Havens before the time of The Lord of the Rings, the last hold-outs being Elrond's people and the elves of Lothlorien.
They live there with the Valar (divine beings a lot like the Greek gods, but not exactly) and the Maiar (divine helpers of the Valar, basically --Saruon is maia, which is why they could never really kill him). Galadriel explains that Bilbo and Frodo can go because they had been ring bearers and, I guess, the Elves feel responsible for the damage the rings caused (why that may be the case is explained in The Simarillion).

They are sailing west to Valinor to live the rest of their lives with the elves. They are not going to the Grey Havens! The ship they leave on sets sail from the Grey Havens (Mithlond). Look at a one of the maps in the back of the books and you will find that the Grey Havens are on the east side of the sea. Sorry, this probably makes no sense to you if you do not have much background knowledge in the subject... in that case I suggest reading the books, because they really are amazing....

I forgot the name of the place, but it's basically where the elves go to retire, since time stands still there or something.
