Let's see...that is the Federal benefit, right?

It should be $603 per month, U.S. funds. However, if you work, depending on the state you live in and whether you are doing multiple part-time contingent jobs or steadier work this can vary considerably....

The general rule of thumb is: the first $60-100 dollars of *gross*, pre-tax income you make is ignored by the system unless you have a pending over-payment from a previous month. After that first $60-100, you lose fifty cents in SSI for every dollar you make, *pre-tax* (yep, it's a double tax folks...poor folks suck it up but the rich guys would and have raised a big stink over things like this...).

The real kicker on this is, you *have* to report your monthly income, if a paystub exists for it, each month, even though the local office may take up to three months to process the info. This can mean that your income at the moment will wildly and erratically rise and fall depending on income you've long since spent....and the alternatives are:

--not report, and then *when* you get caught, not if, find yourself getting docked for over-payments in any given month up to *three times* as late as a *year* after the fact (really, I got docked for income under-reported in March of 2003 three times, the last time in 2005??) or worse....or...

--snag a job that pays under the table in cash. Technically, if you have no paystub, you can't report. No check, no trace. However, on a legal level, while this does mean in theory that your employer bears the brunt of the fault for not hiring and paying you (and the payroll taxes) legally, in practice, most employers are rich enough to hire lawyers and have them shift the blame *to you*, knowing you likely can't afford such (mis)representation.

Sucks, doesn't it? Especially when you have a legitimate disability that *nobody with money* wants to acknowledge, like a damn mood disorder (trust me, income cliffing borders on criminal negligence when it comes to folks with psychiatric issues, who get stable enough to work on their meds, try to work, only to have their meds yanked when neither Public Aid nor the employer pays one red cent for medications needed to stay stable enough TO work).

Just my three cents, don't hate me if you need Canadian pennies, ok?

It is different in every state, It all goes on what you paid is while you did work. or is it, that your are disabled and what the cost of living,
I myself am on SSI also and have been for yrs now at first I was because, of my work history. and what I had pained it. then a few years I become disabled , My Doctor told me, I could never go back to work because of my health being so bad... I am looking at have a transplant... it is taking a toll on my body, the most important think U can do is don't give up on your self........ and to keep a good strong spirit.
Good Luck to ya, keep your heath up

What the heck? What are you asking? I would say stop wasting my tax dollars and return the check so someone who is intelligent enough to appreciate it can have it.
