The smooth, front part of the crab contains the eyes. It has 4 compound eyes, which are made of many tiny sensors that distinguish between brightness and darkness. Sometimes, these types of eyes can detect color, however the horseshoe crab does not see color. Its eyes can detect brightness and shape, which is useful in identifying potential mating partners. Compound eyes are also found in many insects.

no they are not. they have to see the colors of the things they eat.
