Once you have started rice cereal and he's doing well with that you can try to add a bit of peach. The Dr. usually OKs new foods at the 6 month check-up. However, try a teaspoon in the morning separate from the cereal and see how he likes it. Try it for three days in a row, just in the morning to see if there is any allergic reaction. If all is well then you can begin to increase the amount of peaches to 2-3 Tbsp. Then try oat cereal and then other fruits and veggies just like you did with the peaches, slow at first. I'll include a site that was helpful to me with adding foods and what foods, though you may choose a different brand of food, or cook your own for your son.

I had my children on pablum by the time they were between a month old - 3 months old. And i always gave them a little bit of baby fruits m,ixed in with the cereal. My doctors said it was fine. Gave them cereal w/ fruit in A.M, and at bed time (P.M). As for only being 5 months old the milk intake seems to be fine! Just do not try on any fruits that have bananas....this fruit can cause reactions in some children. give foods with bananas at an older age (1yr or so)

Your son is fine on just formula until at least 6 months. Any other food before a year is just considered practice for him. I would hold off on introducing him to anything more right now, as is digestive system is still developing. Stick with the rice cereal, and start introducing him to the other foods after 6 months.

If your son has been eating the cereal for at least 1 week without having introduced anything new to his diet you can add any kind of beginner baby food fruit or veg to his cereal, so long as you do it with minimum 4 days between new foods. I used to throw beginner peas into my son't cereal when I was first introducing them so the falvor wasn't as strong as the peas by themselves. I can't even count the number of times I fed him off coloured cereal from putting a veg or fruit into it for the first time.

my son is 6 months old eats 2 oz of milk mixed in cereal 3 times a day, 4 veggies a day and 2 fruits a day. He eats 6 oz of milk at a feeding and his cereal at those feedings is made out of those 6 oz of milk. he eats every six hours (when he is hungry), and 1 plain 6 oz bottle a day.....his pediatrician says he is a healthy and happy baby :)
