Notepad is known as a Text Editor not a Rich Text Editor.
The difference is that a text editor can only hold plain-text, no hyperlinks, nothing.
Although you may open Format Menu and choose Font and customize the look and feel, it is still stored in the file as plain text.
If you open a Rich Text in Notepad, it would contain a lot of arguements that specify the way the text looks and behaves, and won't be able to read a thing out of it.
Try opening Microsoft Word, type in a 4-5 word senstense, lets say, "This is a Test", and change the colors of each word. then open the save dialog and choose for file type, "Rich Text Format", then open this file in Notepad and see how it would look like...

Notepad is designed for ASCII only, no graphics. Suggest using Wordpad.exe, or Microsoft Word (if you have it installed), or downloading OOo (http://www.openoffice.org/) a free office suite.

There is, but it would take a lot longer to write the code than to just import or copy./paste the files, unless you have dozens of files, all with exactly the same format.
