On priceline.com, you can get prices on very cheap hotels right off the beach and you can even name your own price. you can get cheap 1-5 star hotels. very cheap, i always use it to go to corpus.
i always get a 5 star hotel for about $65 a night. pretty good but hotels might be booked .

Are you a AAA member, or member of AARP because most hotels will offer a discount for those members. Do you work for state government or federal government because they will also give discounts to those employees. But you are hitting a beach area during peak season which means prices will go up. Try Orbitz.com or Travelocity.com. I find Orbitz to be cheaper on flights. Good luck.
