Windows came with Word Pad a basic Word processing program that'll do your paper just fine if you don't have Microsoft Word. You could also use Note Pad though you'll have a much tougher time editing and changing things than in Word Pad, however, both came FREE with your Windows Operating System. To Find them go to Start-Programs-Accessories or just search for WordPad.exe/NotePad.exe.

You cant get microsoft free. You either have to buy a new computer loaded with it or buy the disks at a store. Go use the library's computer or use a friend's.

There is no free Microsoft Word available (legally at least). OpenOffice is the best 2nd option available.

I agree with recommendation of OpenOffice...

I have been using it for about two months and find no difference between Msoft Office and the OpenOffice edition.

Note you will have to download and install the main package, and then go back for installation of the dictionary and spell checker.
