Perhaps history or geopraphy would be better categories for this.

Everything west of the Mississippi River still belonged to France and Spain. Florida also still belonged to Spain. The northern "Midwest" weren't states yet, it was the Indiana Territory. Kentucky and Tennessee had become states, but nothing south of that had yet. Everything east was pretty much as we know it today.
