I am looking to buy a property in cambs/ norfolk and keep finding bungalows which are of non traditional construction. Neither the owners or estate agents are sure and I wondered if there was some record kept that I could access?

I am a builder living in Cambridgeshire. And although you may think I am bias. The best person to ask about any property is a builder. We really do know best.
I've been self employed for 30 years and I've only ever met 2 or 3 building inspectors or architects that really did know what they where talking about.
You cannot learn this stuff out of a book!
An older more experienced builder is also the best person to carry out a survey for you on any prospective new home. And in many cases it would be cheaper!

Save your sanity. Hire a professional House Inspector. They should give you a warranty also. You may find asbestos siding/ lead paint/ termites, electric/water out of code. Who knows.

This may cost $200-400. save you thousands.

probably no record of it .. . you could bore a hole in the wall, but that might defeat the purpose. :D

A good building inspector should be able to identify it for you.
