Take a beer can about 1/4 full and bury it in your flowerbed to ground level. The snails will be attracted to the beer, they'll fall in and drown, you just have to change the can when it gets full.

Put saucers with beer in them around the garden.
It attracts the slugs. Won't harm the cats, but might make for some wild kitty parties.

salt will make snails, slugs, and simular pests shrivel up. if you see one, spread some salt on it, and it will dry up. however, if you want to get rid of them forever, you have to ask a professional.
