What makes you think it is Nigerian? Just because they say they are doesn't make it true. But, I will agree, the scammers need to find a new, corrupt local to operate out of. The minute I see the word, Nigeria or Nigerian, it is into the spam basket. Scams operate on the concept of "illegal," "Easy money," and "under the table." Nigeria is well known as a very corrupt country.

Nigerians living in the united states and abroad ARE NOT scammers
I lived in Nigeria myself for a while,
Nigeria - the country - is one of the pooorest nations in the world. the people then seek and use any means (corrrupt means included) to make money and survive.
Most of the Nigerian scams people in the US and over the world get involved with are by poverty stuck smart NIGERIANS LIVING IN NIGERIA!!
Most Nigerians in the United States are well off, polite and make up the bulk of succesful blacks here. (there isn't a prestigious and diverse college or university that doesn't have a Nigerian Professor)
this is a quote from wikipedia:
" Nigerian Americans are considered to be affluent and well educated. Many possess college degrees and have graduated with advanced diplomas in engineering, law, business and medicine from top institutions like Harvard, MIT, Stanford, Columbia University, UC Berkeley, University of Virginia among others. Today most affluent Nigerians are concentrated in the field of medicine, however, many are employed in many Fortune 500 companies and/or self made entrepreneurs.
Like other successful immigrant populations in the US, Nigerian Americans reside in virtually all the 50 states in the Union":
So yes Niegrians are smart and successful.
THE GOVT. OF THE COUNTRY IS CORRUPT so the people living there use ANY means such as scamming and identity theft to survive.
Nigerians abroad however are totally different. They share a sense of community and help each other out.
They do things like point out criminals when they see one (americans don't do that that's why american criminals don't get exposed)
So don't use it as an excuse to pass every Niegrian you meet here as a fraudster.
they are polite and some of the nicest people you'll meet!
Not to mention, many non-nigerian thieves are scaming innocent people under the pretense that they are nigerians! They are only blemishing the Nigerian name both in the country and out of it.
So next time you fall in the hands of these "nigerian scammers" make sure they are actually nigerians and not americans or colombians pretending to be nigerians.
AND NEXT TIME YOU HEAR OF A NIGERIAN SCAMMER, IT'S MOST LIKELY A POVERTY STRICKING NIGERIAN IN AFRICA LOOKING FOR A MEANS TO SURVIVE AND NOT THE AVERAGE NIGERIAN YOU MEET ON YOUR STREET HERE IN THE U.S.
It's also a stupid stereotype to say "most nigerians are scammers." don't believe it because your just going to ruin relations w/ them and develop an unecessary phobia (they're everywhere).
it's as bad as saying "most muslims are terrorist" or "most iraqians are bad"
I hate to see people hate others because of what they hear from others.

I get loads of spam saying ive won the Nigerian lottery, or someone has left me money in a will or some other load of rubbish. It used to be just my e-mail but today ive started getting spam messages on my 360 page.No idea why a lot of it claims to come from Africa though.
Does anyone ever fall for this rubbish any more?

Imagine that you are so poor you can barely afford to eat once a day. Now imagine that with a few hours of work a day you can make thousands of dollars just by talking with people from another company. There is very little penalties, and you can become rich just from fooling around with a country that you perceive as rich and greedy.
Easy money from people you don't like is always a good incentive.

I wonder how the Nigerian prince got ahold of so much money!
If I was him, I would help my country develop instead of giving it away to a "friend" in America who has a computer!!!

I do not know but I play along and try to frustrate them. always want to use Western union, I say that western union has a problem, or I say that I sent it. then they go to their western union office to pick up money that is not their. I hope it embarrasses them. One time I got them to send me 20.00 to check and see if western union was working. Ohhh he was pissed. Jeck out 419 scams.com That is what their are called, there are some really good stories. Of people getting even with them.
