Well I am not a big fan of the SP2 package, and I am a much less fan of microsoft telling me I need a firewall, when I really don't.

Well I have turned off their firewall, but that damn icon sits on my task bar. I have searched for ways to make it disappear but came up empty. Anyone know where to shut it off?

I dont have an XP machine in front of me so cant check if this shows up or not, but when you turn it off is there a tick box for show icon on desktop, if so then untick it.

If not then try this to see if its listed then hide it.

You can edit it in the registry but you dont want to go there unless you know what your doing and i cant tell you where as i dont have XP.

Use Zonealarm firewall, it wont eat up your resources like macafee and will block outgoing traffic as well as incoming, much more secure.

go to www.grc.com and click on shields up and follow the pages for shields up again and probe all your ports to make sure your are safe if your firewall is turned off.

I don't recommend you disabling the Windows Security Centre, but I will provide instructions if you do want to.

Head to the Control Panel, and into Administrative Tools. You should find the Services Icon there, so double click that. Locate the entry named Security Centre, and turn that off.

That should do it.

It cannot be done, you should get a firewall from McAfee then it will go away.
