Wash your brushes every other week in your shampoo. every other month use a touch of conditioner too.
A good set of brushes should last 10 or more years. I have some Bobbi Brown brushes that are 10 years old.
I never scrub when I apply makeup or when I wash the brushes; this causes the bristles (hair) to break.
Do not soak the bristles; pass the brush through your palm with shampoo and water mixed, rinse and shake as much water out as you can. Lay flat to dry on a towel or paper napkin.

Periodically wash makeup brushes in mild soap or shampoo and water. Put soap or shampoo in the palm of your hand and under tepid running water work the brush head in the suds.
Do not press the brush head into your hand but gently wash the brush head on each flat side until clean. Press the brush head flat in a clean towel or wash cloth to regain the flat original brush shape. Lay on a counter with the brush head extending over the side so brush may dry naturally. Drying brushes straight up allows them to fan out .A little hair conditioner can help the brush hair if becoming dry. Do not leave brushes soaking in water.

You can acutally cleanse your brushes daily as we do at cosmetic counters with alcohol. You spray a little into a tissue and dust your brushes across it and lay flat to dry. The excess will come out in the tissue. It is recommended to cleanse brushes daily with mild soap and water if you are using them on clients, however for personal use, once a week is ideal. Wash them in warm mild soapy water with bristles pointed down. If water gets into the handle of the brush, this could damage them and your brushes will come apart. lay them on a flat surface to dry over night.

I wash them once a month, or when they start feeling oily.

I use baby wash with warm water. I dip the ends of the brushes in alcohol.

Then i set them aside to dry.
